Mary Elizabeth “Betty” (Mills) Boyd Hippler, age 72, of Casey, IL, passed away on Wednesday, July 23, 2025—dancing with friends in Arthur, IL.
Betty was born on February 13, 1953, in Morganfield, KY to James Frederick Mills and Martha Jean (Alvey) Mills. She was a graduate of Crittenden County High School (Class of ’71) and carried her Kentucky roots with pride.
Betty married Gregory Carl Boyd on February 5, 1972, sharing 40 years together until his passing in 2012. She later found love again, marrying Richard Eugene Hippler in 2014, and they were blessed with nearly a decade of laughter and companionship until his passing in 2023.
She was a proud mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. Her love radiated outward, embracing not only her family but also her community. She cherished her time as a member of the Catholic Church and found joy in all things musical—especially singing, attending local events, and dancing wherever there was a good beat.
Betty was known for her vibrant spirit and her open kitchen—often welcoming others with a comforting meal, a shared song, or simply the warmth of her presence. She celebrated her family with unmatched devotion, attending every event, game, recital, and milestone moment possible.
She is survived by her children: Rob Boyd (Jenni) of Tuscola, IL; John Boyd (Amanda) of Villa Grove, IL and Cyndi Lewis (Jay) of Casey, IL; son-in-law, Aaron Hopper of Jerseyville, IL; bonus daughters, Amy Mullen of Casey, IL and Sarah Tomes (Jeremy) of Teutopolis, IL; grandchildren, Emily, Evan (Whitney) and Eden Hopper, James (Megan), Mark and Chris Boyd, Caleb and Chloe Lewis and Felicia Tucker; bonus grandchildren, Cody Brown (Melissa), Derick Brown (Paige) and Abigail Mullen; great grandchildren, Richard, Haylee and Addison Brown, Connor, Kayleigh, and Nolan Brown and Amelia Hagemier; siblings, Donnie Mills (Rhonda) of Dawson Springs, KY; Laura Smith (Jeff) of Dawson Springs, KY; Hank Mills (Leslie) of Dawson Springs, KY; Bill Mills (Cindy) of Bowling Green, KY and Elisa Nielson (Rich) of Louisville, KY. She also leaves a wide circle of in-laws, nieces, nephews, her church family, and cherished friends. She was preceded in death by two brothers, her parents, husbands, and her daughter Kimberly A. (Boyd) Hopper.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, July 30, 2025, at St. Charles Catholic Church, 300 E. Jefferson Ave., Casey, IL with Father Augustine Koomson officiating. Burial will follow in Washington Street Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 12 noon prior to the service at Markwell Funeral Home, 200 N. Central Ave., Casey, IL.
Her legacy is one of love in motion—through meals shared, dances taught, songs sung, and the countless lives she touched.
