100 Women Who Care donates $4,800 to Casey Township Library

Casey’s 100 Women Who Care voted to donate $4,800 to the Casey Township Library at the third quarterly meeting held July 24 at Richards Farm. Pictured from left are: library board members, Shawn Huisinga, Sharon Durham, also 100 Women members; Doug Stoutin, Marcy Mumford, 100 Women member; Karen Bradford, board secretary and 100 Women member, Susie Mathews, board president, Christy Thomas, 100 Women member, Chrissy Squires, board treasurer, and Librarian Gretchen Murphy, both 100 Women members.

The Casey Township Library is the third quarter recipient of $4,800 from the Casey Chapter of 100 Women Who Care. Karen Bradford, who serves on the library board and is also a member of 100 Women, submitted the nomination on behalf of the library, and it was one of three nominations chosen to be put up to a group vote.

The nomination stated that during what has been an unusually hot summer, the library’s air conditioner had quit and was deemed irreparable, forcing the board to use a portion of savings, earmarked for a much-needed building addition, which would make the facility fully accessible, to purchase a new air conditioning unit for the library.

100 Women meets four times per year for an approximately 30-minute meeting. During each in-person quarterly meeting, members have the opportunity to nominate a worthy cause. Three of those ideas are randomly drawn; information is given about each organization, and a vote is taken.

Each member or team writes checks for $100 directly to the donation recipient. If membership reaches 100 contracts, the group will give away $10,000 at each meeting. This combined donation makes a real and immediate impact, without time-consuming fundraising events and planning.

New members can join now and throughout the year. New contracts are available and can be submitted at any time. All are set to expire at the end of 2025, when a new 12-month contract will be offered.

Membership can be individual or a team of up to four women. Teams are required to name a chairperson and will be limited to a single vote. The donation is $25 for a four-woman team and $50 for a two-woman team.
