Casey-Westfield schools are emphasizing hands-on learning and community connections through diverse programs spanning elementary through high school levels, according to administrator reports presented during Monday’s board meeting.

Elementary students at Monroe School engaged in creative competitions and educational experiences, with Mrs. Roseberry’s class winning the Christmas door decorating contest featuring Snoopy’s doghouse and Charlie Brown’s Christmas tree. The school also hosted a successful assembly with Duncan Kirkwood that provided valuable learning experiences for young students.

Music programs are thriving across grade levels, with 25 students participating in 5th/6th grade choir under Mrs. Schmidt’s direction. The group is preparing for performances during the end-of-year awards banquet in May, demonstrating the district’s commitment to arts education.

Junior and senior high students are engaged in comprehensive academic and extracurricular activities. Seventh grade social studies classes are conducting comparative studies of European and American governmental and economic systems, while eighth graders explore early American republic history and presidential succession.

Science education emphasizes laboratory investigation, with Biology 2 students completing enzyme and biochemical reaction studies, while Biology 1 and Basic Biology students design controlled experiments related to plant biology and photosynthesis.

English language arts students showcased creativity through diverse book report presentations including skits, talk shows, booklets, vocabulary tests, artwork, and alternate book endings, developing both analytical and public speaking skills.

The district’s commitment to student leadership development includes a new Leadership Class being offered this semester, providing additional opportunities for student growth beyond traditional academic subjects.

Extracurricular achievements include recognition of ten junior/senior high band students selected for the LIC Pep band: Will Cochonour, Kaitlyn McKinney, Kate Hall, Wade Winnett, Gavin Ridge, Savannah Scott, Kiara Shaw, Rachel Warfel, Emma Lowrey, and Madi Gelb.

Community service continues through FCCLA volunteers who recently played BINGO with Casey Health Center residents, with plans for return visits and Valentine’s Day cookie cake sales as fundraising activities.

The FFA program maintains hands-on agricultural education through greenhouse vegetable planting and hanging basket production, connecting students with practical agricultural skills.
