Economic Development Initiatives Gain Momentum in Casey
Casey’s economic development efforts are expanding with multiple new programs and partnerships designed to boost the city’s growth prospects, Economic Development Director Tom Daughhetee announced during Monday’s council meeting.
Daughhetee reported enthusiasm following his attendance at the Rural Community and Economic Development conference, where he gathered ideas for implementation in Casey. The director said he is “excited to move forward with economic development ideas in Casey” based on conference insights.
Several initiatives are launching in the coming weeks, including Friday’s Chamber of Commerce “Chamber Chat” program, which represents a new approach to business networking and information sharing in the community.
The Clark County Enterprise Zone board will meet soon to discuss adding residential properties to the zone, potentially expanding tax incentives beyond commercial and industrial properties. This change could provide property tax relief for homeowners while encouraging residential development.
A new CEO (Creating Entrepreneurial Opportunities) program is beginning Thursday with its first meeting, offering another avenue for business development and entrepreneurship support in the region.
The city is also planning a ribbon cutting ceremony at the park to celebrate completion of the walking path project, demonstrating the connection between recreational improvements and community development efforts.
Alderman Richardson emphasized the need for strategic planning regarding Business District funds, requesting an Economic Development committee meeting to decide how to allocate available resources most effectively.
Mayor Nichols provided updates on ongoing projects including the park pond project and upcoming discussions about park recreational area improvements, showing continued investment in community amenities that support economic development goals.
