Casey Council Briefs
Economic Development Initiatives: The Economic Development Committee met May 8 to discuss several initiatives including a Tourism Director position, Freedom Fest planning, a Business District Grant program, and participation in the Central Illinois Land Bank. The committee’s recommendations will be developed for future council consideration.
Utility Building Security: The council approved a $27,360 electronic gate installation at the utility building from Century Fence, enhancing security and access control at the municipal facility.
Road Grant Application: The city hired Dalmo Company to help apply for an Illinois Department of Transportation grant for road improvements. The engineering firm will work with Economic Development Director Tom Daughhetee on the application process.
Tree Removal Nearing Completion: Effingham Tree Service has two more trees to remove before completing their contract with the city. The tree removal project has been ongoing as part of the city’s maintenance efforts.
Police Enforcement Update: Police Chief Adam Henderson reported that all property maintenance abatement notices sent in February have been served to property owners. The enforcement action represents the completion of the first wave of property maintenance compliance efforts.
Weather Spotting Activity: Emergency Management Director David Craig reported that staff served as weather spotters three times during the past week, highlighting the active weather conditions in the area.
Sidewalk Construction Timeline: Wallace Concrete is scheduled to begin sidewalk construction at the end of June, implementing the $62,502 contract approved at the previous council meeting.
New Equipment Delivered: The city’s new Hydro Vac truck was delivered Monday, adding to the municipal fleet for utility maintenance operations.
Citywide Cleanup Scheduled: The annual citywide cleanup is scheduled for June 7-14, providing residents an opportunity to dispose of large items and excess materials.
