Bakery and confectionery a big hit in Casey

Spread the love

Pictured are (from left): sisters Carlene Richardson and Natasha Hickox were special guests of Rotarian Chris Snedeker at the Aug. 26 meeting of Casey Rotary. The two entrepreneurs shared information about their new business, Whisks + Lollies in downtown Casey. Casey Rotary meets at noon each Tuesday at Richards Farm.

“Nestled in the heart of Casey, Illinois, we’re whipping up fresh-baked goodies and sprinkling in a little magic with a playful mix of your favorite candies,” reads the Facebook page for Casey’s recent enterprise, Whisk + Lollies, a bakery and candy shoppe, owned and operated by sisters Carlene Richardson and Natasha Hickox.

And how sweet it is! Just six months ago, two sisters opened their business in downtown Casey at 20 W. General Robey Ave., just behind the World’s Largest Mailbox. The sisters are the masterminds behind this popular business, each with their own special talents and flair, and agree that the time has flown by.

Carlene is the creator of delectable baked goods, while Natasha manages all things candy.

Baked items include cakes, cupcakes, pies, brownies, cookies, banana bread, scones, and cinnamon rolls. An assortment of cake flavors is available, but so far, banana has proven to be the most popular, followed by coconut and carrot. Gluten-free options are also available. All baked goods can be made to order.

Cake products are also sold locally at Crazy 8’s BBQ and Grill, Casey Coffee Co., and the Traveling Mug.

Beginning this Labor Day weekend, the much-anticipated pumpkin flavors will be introduced, along with a special popcorn dessert in honor of the Casey Popcorn Festival.

Candy selections include homemade chocolate truffles, displayed alongside a case full of other chocolates; nuts and gummies, taffy, Jelly Belly jelly beans, and a wide array of nostalgic candy.

Natasha and Carlene said they have enjoyed lots of local support, as well as support from tourists. Customers also include residents of Oblong, Newton, Effingham, Marshall, Greenup, and Chicago.

Whisk + Lollies is open seven days a week, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Saturday, and from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sunday. Follow them on social media, with credit given to their talented friend, Bailey Tait.
