Illinois quick hits: Giannoulias orders village to stop sharing data with CBP
License plate camera data
Illinois Secretary of State Alexi Giannoulias has ordered the Village of Forest Park and Motorola Solutions to disable data-sharing capabilities with U.S. Customs and Border Protection.
Giannoulias’ office discovered that the technology was being used to give CBP access to license plate camera data.
The Illinois Vehicle Code bans the sharing of such data with agencies investigating people based on their immigration status or abortion-related services.
Talks to focus on trade with Japan
The Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity (DCEO) and the Illinois Economic Development Corporation (EDC) led a delegation to the Midwest U.S.-Japan Association’s conference in Japan this weekend.
The DCEO says members of Team Illinois will join counterparts from nine Midwestern states and more than 100 Japanese corporations in an effort to strengthen investment and trade ties and explore new opportunities for collaboration.
Fall road safety
Illinois State Police (ISP) have issued a reminder about traffic safety on Illinois roadways during the fall harvest. ISP says farmers across the state will be moving equipment along roadways.
Police remind drivers and farmers alike to share the road and help reduce crashes involving tractors and other equipment.
