Casey-Westfield School Board Meeting | November 2025

The Casey-Westfield Community Unit School District C-4 Board of Education met on Monday, November 17, 2025, to review academic achievements and financial planning for the upcoming year. In addition to setting a Truth-in-Taxation hearing for a proposed tax levy increase and reviewing strong state report card data, the Board handled several personnel and administrative matters.

Board members heard reports on student success in engineering competitions and music, and discussed safety protocols for early morning travel. The meeting concluded with an executive session regarding employment and student matters.

Band Teacher Resignation:
The Board voted to accept the resignation of Brent Ritter as the band teacher, effective at the end of the 2025-26 school year. In related arts news, the administration reported that the High School Band recently placed first in all categories at the Newton Field Competition and the Oblong Parade.

$20,000 Donation Accepted:
The Board unanimously voted to accept a monetary donation of $20,000 from Blattner Energy. The donation was accepted under the provisions of Board Policy 8:80, which governs gifts to the Board.

Snow Removal Contract:
Preparing for the winter season, the Board approved a proposal from Groundworks LLC for snow removal services. The approved rate for the 2025-26 school year is $995 per snowfall.

Early Bird Safety Discussion:
Board member Lisa Huddlestun raised concerns regarding student travel to “Early Bird” classes on mornings with dangerous driving conditions. Principal Sullivan and Mr. McFarland discussed current policies for excusing tardiness or absences during bad weather and explored the possibility of cancelling Early Bird classes specifically on dangerous mornings, even if regular school remains in session.

Coaching Staff Changes:
Board Secretary Becky Clement commended the football team and coaching staff on their season. Principal Sullivan announced he will step down as an assistant coach after six years on the staff. Clement thanked Sullivan for his time and effort dedicated to the program.

Student Competition Success:
The Board was informed that physics students recently competed in the 3rd Annual Engineering Competition at Robinson High School. Casey-Westfield students took 1st place in the “Surprise Build” and “Catapult” categories and finished 3rd overall out of 13 participating schools.
