Casey City Council Meeting | December 15, 2025

The Casey City Council met for its regular meeting on Monday, December 15, 2025, marking the final session for retiring Utility Superintendent Shelby Biggs. In addition to honoring Biggs for his 30 years of service, the Council moved to update utility fee structures, approved contracts for water system oversight, and authorized a new police hire. All voting items passed with a 5-0 vote, with Alderman Jeremiah Hanley absent.

Sidewalk Snow Removal Concerns:
Alderman Lori Wilson raised concerns regarding snow removal on city sidewalks, specifically citing the area near J&K and Central Avenue. Wilson noted that many residents walk to local businesses and requested better maintenance of those paths. Director of Public Works Ryan Staley explained that his team prioritizes clearing streets first, often working long hours, but agreed to place a heavier emphasis on the high-traffic sidewalks moving forward.

Tourism Sign Damaged:
Alderman Wilson reported that the blue tourism sign on Route 40, located near the ATI Physical Therapy building, is damaged and in need of repair. The sign features information about the Softball Museum. Mayor Nichols stated the city likely pays for the maintenance through the state and that crews would investigate fixing it.

Well Ordinance Update:
Alderman Tanner Brown provided a brief update regarding a potential ordinance to prohibit water wells within the city. Brown suggested that instead of restricting wells in specific areas (Exhibit A), the city should move toward an all-encompassing prohibition. He and City Clerk Jeremy Mumford are reviewing the regulations.

Candy Canes on Main:
Economic Development Director Tom Daughhetee reported on the recent “Candy Canes on Main” event. despite very cold temperatures, the event drew approximately 40 attendees and was considered a success, with attendance picking up as the weather warmed on Saturday.
