New Illinois Supreme Court justice installed
The newest member of the Illinois Supreme Court has been installed.
Former appellate court justice Sanjay T. Tailor was sworn in by Chief Justice P. Scott Neville at a ceremony in Chicago on Friday.
Tailor joined the court after the retirement of Mary Jane Theis earlier this month.
IDPH releases homeless mortality report
The latest homeless morbidity and mortality report from the Illinois Department of Public Health shows that persons experiencing homelessness are much more likely to face emergency department visits, hospitalizations and premature death than the public at large.
Nearly 3,000 deaths involving homeless people were reported in Illinois from 2017 to 2025, with an average age of death nearly 20 years younger than the general population. The number of homeless people who died from drug-related overdoses was 39%, compared to less than 5% in the general public.
$1.9 million in state funding presented to Dusable Museum
The DuSable Black History Museum and Education Center in Chicago has officially received $1.9 million in funding from state taxpayers. Illinois Comptroller Susana Mendoza joined museum leaders and elected officials for a check presentation ceremony at the facility on Friday.
A press release from state Rep. Kimberly DuBuclet, D-Chicago, said the funding was secured in the state budget passed during the final days of the General Assembly’s legislative session last May.
