Following the presentation, board member Hollingsworth offered a motion to officially approve the creation of a K-4th grade Elementary basketball league. The motion was seconded by board member Baird. The measure passed with four affirmative votes from the five present members. Board member Kannmacher abstained from the vote, while board members Maxwell and Parcel were absent from the meeting.

The board also moved to formally approve an operating agreement between the Martinsville Summer Recreation Board and MCUSD #C-3. Such intergovernmental agreements typically govern the shared use of district athletic fields, gymnasiums, and facilities by local youth summer leagues. Board member Wilhoit offered the motion to approve the agreement, which was seconded by Kannmacher. The measure passed, though board member Hollingsworth opted to abstain from the vote.

Community facility use was also a topic during the meeting’s public comment period. Visitor Scott Price addressed the board on behalf of the Martinsville Agricultural Fair, formally requesting permission to use the school gymnasium to accommodate potential rain delays for fair events scheduled for Sunday, May 24, Monday, May 25, and Tuesday, May 26.
