Illinois Quick Hits: Indiana governor signs Bears stadium bill
(The Center Square) – The Chicago Bears say they are grateful for the leadership shown by Indiana Gov. Mike Braun after he signed legislation creating a framework for a new stadium in Hammond.
Senate Bill 27 provides for a 1% food and beverage tax in Lake and Porter counties, a 5% hotel tax in Lake County, a 12% ticket tax and the capture of new property taxes at the development.
Illinois House members are considering megaprojects legislation that advanced out of committee on Thursday.
STATE HOUSING AGENCY SEEKS PUBLIC INPUT
The Illinois Housing Development Authority is asking for public input on how the agency allocates low-income housing tax credits.
IHDA has hybrid summit meetings scheduled in Springfield on March 11 and in Chicago on March 20. The agency is also conducting an online survey of the public’s opinion on recommendations and allocation priorities.
SAT: DESERT STORM CEASEFIRE CEREMONY
The Illinois Department of Veterans Affairs is commemorating the 35th anniversary of the ceasefire that ended Operation Desert Storm.
A ceremony is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. on Saturday at the Illinois State Military Museum in Springfield. Brig. Gen. Steven Rice is scheduled to deliver the keynote address.
A coalition of forces from the United States and other countries fought Iraq’s invasion of Kuwait for 42 days until a cease-fire was declared on Feb. 28, 1991.
