Article Summary: The Marshall Board of Education formally adopted its upcoming academic calendars on Thursday, finalizing an extended current school year due to weather cancellations and establishing the start and end dates for the 2026-27 academic year.

School Calendar Key Points:

  • The amended 2025-26 school calendar accounts for five used emergency days, pushing the final day for students and staff to Friday, May 29.

  • The 2026-27 school year will officially begin on Monday, August 17, for teachers and Tuesday, August 18, for students.

  • The latest possible finish date for the 2026-27 calendar is set for Friday, May 28.

The Marshall C.U.S.D. C-2 Board of Education on Thursday, March 12, 2026, finalized its academic scheduling, officially amending the current school year’s end date while mapping out the framework for the 2026-27 school year.

Superintendent Ross presented the amended 2025-26 calendar to the board, noting that the district had utilized five emergency days over the course of the winter. To account for the lost instructional time, the last day of school for both students and staff has been moved to Friday, May 29. The board passed the amendment unanimously following a motion by Mr. Lycan.

Looking ahead to the next academic cycle, the board also unanimously approved the 2026-27 school calendar. Teachers will return to the buildings for their first day on Monday, August 17, with students arriving for their first day of classes on Tuesday, August 18.

The Marshall Education Association (MEA) provided contractual input into the calendar’s design, specifically requesting that the start date be moved to a Monday. The calendar is structured to provide a long Christmas break and a short Spring Break clustered around Easter. Taking potential future emergency days into account, the calendar features a latest possible finish date of Friday, May 28, 2027.

The board also established its own schedule for the 2026-27 term. Meeting dates from June 2026 through May 2027 will remain on the second Thursday of each month, with the sole exception of the July meeting, which is scheduled for the third Thursday.
