The Marshall C.U.S.D. C-2 Board of Education met in regular session on Thursday, March 12, 2026, advancing a busy agenda focused on imminent facility needs and staffing for the upcoming academic year. In addition to approving over $88,000 for emergency elevator repairs and performing arts upgrades, the board established the district’s academic calendars and held a closed session to negotiate personnel contracts, resulting in the hiring of dozens of coaches and staff members.
Administrative Contracts and Personnel Changes: Following a closed session, the board voted unanimously to renew the administrative contract of Jill Bagby, retaining her as the South Elementary Principal through the 2027-28 school year. The board also accepted the resignation of School Psychologist Katelyn Stokes, effective at the end of the 2025-26 school year. New hires approved for the 2026-27 school year included Faith Worthington as the North School Music and Junior High Choir Teacher, and Karlee McCollum as the Varsity Volleyball Coach.
Coaching and Extracurricular Appointments: The board approved a massive slate of Fall Coaches and Volunteers for the 2026-27 school year. High School appointments include Steve Weber (Head Football), D.J. Barnett and Rhett Herrington (Assistant Football), Katie Rhoads (Marshallette Sponsor), Laura Pearce (Cheerleader Sponsor), Darin Hostetter (Golf), and Ryan Arthur (Cross Country). Junior High appointments include Colan Miller (Baseball), Ryan Arthur (Cross Country), Heather Setzer (Softball), Katie Rhoads (Cub Cadettes), Kim Downey (Cheer), and Justine Clark and Mike Henry (Girls Basketball). Approved volunteers include Garry Norton, Trent Dahnke, and Josh Silva for football.
Student and Staff Recognition: The board heard a presentation on the ECCEL (Edgar Clark Career Exploration & Leadership) program from instructors Bob Abernathy and Delena Parker, who were joined by students Briley Mattos, Raylen Tate, and Layla Shutt. During administrative reports, Mr. Keown praised three boys for making the LIC All-Conference Basketball Team. Additionally, Mrs. Bagby highlighted a successful first Winter Carneval event at South Elementary, and Mrs. Lake commended Mrs. Schmidt, Mr. Norris, and their students for a successful STEM night event.
IHSA Membership and Field Trips: The board unanimously approved the renewal of its Illinois High School Association (IHSA) membership for the 2026-27 season. The membership carries no fees and allows Marshall High School to compete in the IHSA post-season state series. Additionally, the board approved an out-of-state field trip request from Mr. Cline, allowing the Science Club to travel to the Flight Museum in Dayton, Ohio.
