The Casey-Westfield varsity softball team showcased a relentless offensive attack on Saturday, racking up 14 hits to defeat Farina South Central 11-4 in home tournament action. The hosts used a massive six-run third inning to erase an early deficit and cruised to victory behind three shutout innings of relief from senior Ava Goble.

Casey-Westfield opened the scoring in the bottom of the first inning, manufacturing a quick run to take a 1-0 lead. The game remained quiet until the top of the third, when Farina South Central’s offense suddenly came to life. The visitors erupted for four runs in the frame, sparked by a bases-clearing, three-run triple off the bat of Kinlee Thompson, to take a 4-1 advantage.

However, Casey-Westfield’s response was immediate and overwhelming. In the bottom of the third inning, the hosts sent runners flying around the basepaths, capitalizing on defensive miscues and stringing together clutch hits to score six runs. The massive rally flipped the script, giving Casey-Westfield a 7-4 lead they would not relinquish.

The middle of the Casey-Westfield lineup was virtually unstoppable all afternoon. Senior Lucy Moore, junior Ella Whitacre, and senior Ava Goble each recorded three hits to pace the offense. Moore ripped a double and drove in three runs, while Whitacre also tallied three RBIs. Junior Anna Karras was a nightmare on the basepaths, stealing four bases and scoring twice after reaching on two hits.

In the circle, sophomore Arhianna Bonds started for Casey-Westfield, striking out three over four innings of work while navigating the tricky third inning. Goble then took over in relief and completely shut down the Farina South Central lineup. Goble earned the win by tossing three scoreless innings, allowing just one hit and walking two to secure the 11-4 victory.

Despite taking the loss, Farina South Central saw a solid multi-hit performance from Emmie Ruholl, who went 2-for-3 at the plate. M. Peddicord also pitched well in relief for the visitors, striking out five batters over 3.1 innings. Ultimately, Casey-Westfield’s flawless defense—committing zero errors on the day—and explosive bats proved to be too much to overcome.
