Casey-Westfield Launches Five Home Runs in 11-4 Win Over Edwards County

The Casey-Westfield varsity softball team put on an absolute clinic at the plate on Tuesday afternoon, blasting five home runs to power past host Edwards County 11-4 in a non-conference clash. Backed by the offensive fireworks and a dominant, 10-strikeout complete game from senior pitcher Ava Goble, the visitors controlled the contest from the opening frame.

Casey-Westfield wasted no time setting the tone. The visitors erupted for four runs in the top of the first inning, immediately putting Edwards County in a deep hole. They kept their foot on the gas as the game progressed, adding two more runs in the second and a single run in the third to build a commanding 7-3 advantage early on.

The afternoon quickly turned into a home run derby for the Casey-Westfield lineup. Sophomore G. Gilbert led the offensive barrage with a spectacular performance, going 3-for-4 with two home runs, three RBIs, and two runs scored. Sophomore Arhianna Bonds was equally impressive, tallying three hits—including a home run and a double—while scoring three times. Sophomore Gabriela Frye and senior Lucy Moore also joined the home run parade, launching one apiece to keep the pressure on the Edwards County defense.

Despite the lopsided score, Edwards County showcased its own power at the plate. Falon Richards practically carried the hosts’ offense, launching two home runs of her own in a brilliant 2-for-3, three-RBI performance. Allison Groff also contributed a multi-hit day for Edwards County, ripping an RBI double to help chip away at the deficit.

In the circle, Goble was a steadying force for Casey-Westfield amidst the offensive chaos. The senior ace navigated seven innings of work, allowing just two earned runs on six hits while walking two. Goble’s ability to miss bats was on full display as she racked up 10 strikeouts to stifle any hopes of an Edwards County comeback.

Edwards County starter Allison Groff went the distance in a hard-luck loss, striking out six batters over seven innings while absorbing the brunt of Casey-Westfield’s relentless power surge. Casey-Westfield capped off their impressive road victory by plating three final insurance runs in the top of the seventh inning, securing the 11-4 win.
