Goble’s Gem and 16-Hit Attack Propel Casey-Westfield Past Salt Fork 10-1
The Casey-Westfield varsity softball team fired on all cylinders Tuesday afternoon, combining a relentless 16-hit offensive assault with a dominant pitching performance to secure a 10-1 non-conference road victory over Salt Fork.
Senior pitcher Ava Goble set the tone in the circle for the visitors. The right-hander carved up the Salt Fork lineup over six innings of work, allowing just one earned run on five hits. Displaying pinpoint control, Goble did not issue a single walk while racking up nine strikeouts to keep the opposing batters completely off balance.
Casey-Westfield’s lineup backed their ace with constant pressure from the opening pitch. The visitors plated a run in the first inning to take an immediate lead and never looked back, systematically building their advantage by scoring in five of the seven frames.
Sophomore G. Gilbert was a major catalyst for the offense, finishing 3-for-4 with a triple, two runs scored, and a pair of RBIs. Fellow sophomore Gabriela Frye matched her with a three-hit afternoon, going 3-for-4 with a double, two runs scored, and two stolen bases to ignite the top of the lineup.
Run production came from throughout the Casey-Westfield order. Senior Lucy Moore was perfectly efficient at the plate, going 2-for-2 with a sacrifice fly and a team-high three RBIs. Goble helped her own cause by driving in two runs on a pair of hits, while Addison Seaton also added two RBIs. Arhianna Bonds chipped in with a solid multi-hit performance, finishing 2-for-4 with a run scored.
The visitors also wreaked havoc on the basepaths, constantly putting pressure on the Salt Fork defense by swiping seven stolen bases as a team. Frye and Bonds led the charge with two steals apiece, while Anna Karras, H. Schackmann, and Kennady Fuller each added one. Defensively, Casey-Westfield played clean softball and turned a key double play to back their pitching staff.
Salt Fork’s lone bright spot came in the bottom of the sixth inning when they finally broke through against Goble to push a run across the plate. However, Casey-Westfield immediately answered with two final insurance runs in the top of the seventh. Gilbert then entered the circle in relief, tossing a scoreless bottom of the seventh to slam the door and secure the 10-1 victory.
