Walk-Off Winner: Pruemer’s Complete Game Lifts Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg Over Casey-Westfield
The Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg varsity baseball team secured a thrilling 4-3 walk-off victory over Casey-Westfield on Friday, using a bottom-of-the-seventh rally to cap off a gritty non-conference win at home.
Junior Noah Pruemer was the anchor for WSSHS, delivering a masterful complete-game performance on the mound. Despite his defense committing four errors behind him, Pruemer did not surrender a single earned run. He scattered four hits over seven complete innings, striking out four batters and issuing just one walk on 93 pitches. When the fielding faltered, the Hatchets’ defense made up for it when it mattered most, turning three crucial double plays to neutralize Casey-Westfield’s scoring threats and bail their pitcher out of jams.
Offensively, the Hatchets relied on timely hitting and execution to manufacture their runs. Senior Branson Tingley had a perfect day at the plate, going 2-for-2 with a double, an RBI, and a sacrifice bunt. Fellow senior Carter Verdeyen was equally effective, delivering a 2-for-4 performance that included an RBI and a run scored. Sophomore Grayson McCray also contributed to the extra-base hit tally, ripping a double in his three at-bats.
Casey-Westfield struck early, taking advantage of an opening-inning miscue to push across an unearned run and take a 1-0 lead. Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg responded in the bottom of the second to tie the game before plating two more runs in the fourth to build a 3-1 advantage.
Casey-Westfield refused to go quietly, utilizing WSSHS defensive errors to manufacture unearned runs in both the fifth and sixth innings, tying the game at 3-3. That set the stage for a dramatic bottom of the seventh. With the pressure on, Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg executed, pushing across the decisive run to walk off with the 4-3 victory.
