The Casey-Westfield varsity baseball team relied on a flurry of early-inning offense to secure a 6-4 non-conference victory over visiting Farina South Central on Saturday morning at Jerald Barr Field.

In a matchup that saw both offenses clicking right out of the gate, Casey-Westfield utilized a pivotal three-run second inning to take the lead for good, improving their overall record to 8-7 on the 2026 season.

The morning contest began with immediate fireworks. Farina South Central struck first, pushing across a pair of runs in the top of the first inning to take a quick 2-0 advantage. However, the host Warriors answered the call in the bottom half of the frame, plating two runs of their own to knot the score.

The visiting Cougars briefly retook the lead with a single run in the top of the second inning, but Casey-Westfield’s bats quickly responded with the defining rally of the game. The Warriors erupted for three runs in the bottom of the second, capitalizing on offensive execution and defensive miscues by South Central to take a 5-3 lead.

Casey-Westfield tacked on what proved to be a crucial insurance run in the bottom of the third inning to extend their advantage to 6-3. Farina South Central managed to scratch across one more run in the top of the fourth to cut the deficit to 6-4, but that was as close as the Cougars would get.

Following the offensive burst in the opening frames, the pitching staffs and defenses settled in to dictate the remainder of the contest. Both teams were held scoreless over the final three innings. The Warriors’ defense tightened up down the stretch, preserving the two-run lead and cleanly securing the win.

Casey-Westfield out-hit Farina South Central 8-6 in the contest. The Cougars, who fell to 3-7 on the season with the loss, were hampered by four costly fielding errors, while the Warriors committed just two.
