Five-Run Fifth Inning Propels Casey-Westfield Past Robinson 7-3

The Casey-Westfield varsity baseball team capitalized on a massive five-run fifth inning and a steady offensive attack to secure a 7-3 home conference victory over Robinson on Thursday afternoon.

Casey-Westfield’s lineup was relentless, tallying 11 hits to consistently pressure the Robinson defense. After Robinson scratched across a run in the top of the first inning to take an early lead, Casey-Westfield immediately answered in the bottom half of the frame with a pair of runs to jump ahead 2-1.

The game settled into a rhythm over the next three innings, with Robinson starter Gunner Hoalt keeping the hosts in check. Hoalt pitched 4.1 innings, striking out two while scattering eight hits. However, defensive miscues ultimately unraveled Robinson. In the bottom of the fifth, Casey-Westfield broke the game open, pushing five runs across the plate. Crucially, only three of the seven total runs charged to Hoalt were earned, as a pair of Robinson errors prolonged the inning and gave Casey-Westfield the extra opportunities they needed to put the game out of reach.

Felix Reynolds provided a steady presence out of the bullpen for Robinson, tossing 1.2 scoreless innings in relief while allowing three hits and striking out one.

Trailing 7-1 entering their final turn at the plate, Robinson mounted a late rally in the top of the seventh. Isaac Hardiman sparked the offense with an RBI double and later scored, while Graysen Brown and Reynolds each recorded RBIs on the afternoon. Teammates Reese Johnson, Braylon Murray, Brody Baker, Gunner Hoalt, and Jetson Hoalt all contributed base hits, but despite scoring two runs in the inning, the deficit proved too large to overcome as Casey-Westfield cleanly secured the final outs.
