Hermann’s Two-Way Dominance Propels Robinson Past Casey-Westfield 3-1

Senior Eva Hermann delivered a dominant two-way performance, tossing a complete-game gem and launching a crucial home run to lead the Robinson varsity softball team to a 3-1 road conference victory over Casey-Westfield on Thursday afternoon.

The matchup featured a classic pitchers’ duel between Hermann and Casey-Westfield senior Ava Goble. Hermann earned the victory for the visitors, expertly navigating the opposing lineup to allow just one earned run on four hits over seven innings. She struck out seven batters, issued only two walks, and consistently pitched ahead in the count. Goble matched her step for step for much of the afternoon, taking the hard-luck loss despite a brilliant effort. The Casey-Westfield ace also tossed a complete game, striking out eight batters and yielding just three earned runs on five scattered hits.

Robinson broke the scoreless tie in the top of the second inning to take an early 1-0 advantage. The game remained a tense 1-0 affair until the top of the sixth, when Robinson found vital breathing room by plating two insurance runs. Hermann provided the heavy lifting, crushing a home run to finish the day with two RBIs and a run scored. Senior Rhianna Moss was a constant threat at the plate for Robinson, going 2-for-3 with an RBI triple and a stolen base. Ella Bunten and Eva Brashear also crossed the plate to help secure the victory.

Casey-Westfield struggled to string hits together against Hermann but showed signs of life in the bottom of the sixth inning. The hosts scratched across their lone run of the game when junior Anna Karras provided an offensive spark. Karras accounted for both the team’s only run scored and only RBI, finishing 1-for-2 with a walk and wreaking havoc on the basepaths by successfully stealing three bases.

Gabriela Frye, H. Schackmann, and G. Gilbert each added base hits for Casey-Westfield, but Hermann shut down the late rally and cleanly retired the side in the seventh to cement the 3-1 win for Robinson.
