Senior Ava Goble delivered a masterclass on the mound and at the plate, leading the Casey-Westfield varsity softball team to a commanding 8-0 home conference victory over Richland County on Monday.

Goble tossed a complete-game shutout, blanking the visitors over seven flawless innings while scattering just three hits. She struck out nine batters and walked only two, keeping the Richland County lineup guessing from the first pitch to the last. The senior standout also helped her own cause in the batter’s box, crushing a home run and crossing the plate twice.

The Casey-Westfield offense provided plenty of early run support to back their ace, tallying 13 total hits in the contest. The hosts set the tone immediately, plating two runs in the bottom of the first inning before breaking the game open with a three-run second. They continued to apply pressure, adding a single run in the third and a pair in the fourth to build an insurmountable 8-0 advantage.

Senior Lucy Moore was a consistent catalyst for the Casey-Westfield attack, going 2-for-4, scoring a game-high three runs, and driving in another. Sophomore Gabriela Frye also made a significant impact in the middle of the order, collecting two RBIs and scoring twice, while sophomore Arhianna Bonds chipped in with a hit, an RBI, and a pair of runs. The team’s aggressive baserunning also paid dividends, with Anna Karras swiping two bags.

Richland County struggled to string together offense against Goble’s overpowering stuff. Miranda Dowty, Jaylen Gwyn, and Taylor Bloomer accounted for the team’s only three hits of the afternoon. Dowty provided a brief spark on the basepaths by stealing two bases, but the visitors simply couldn’t push a runner across to challenge the deficit.

In the circle for Richland County, Gwyn provided a bright spot by tossing three scoreless innings in relief, striking out three batters and allowing just two hits to finally slow the Casey-Westfield bats in the late innings.
