Casey-Westfield Blanks Richland County 2-0 Behind Masterful One-Hit Shutout
The Casey-Westfield varsity baseball team leaned on a flawless defensive effort and a dominant pitching performance to earn a 2-0 home conference victory over Richland County on Monday.
Casey-Westfield pitchers kept the visitors off balance all afternoon, combining to throw a spectacular one-hit shutout. The home squad backed up the stellar effort on the mound with a clean sheet in the field, committing zero errors to stifle any potential Richland County rallies.
The game’s pivotal moment arrived in the bottom of the third inning. After a quiet start from both offenses, Casey-Westfield finally broke the deadlock, capitalizing on their opportunities to plate two crucial runs. The hosts tallied seven hits throughout the contest, applying consistent pressure that forced the Richland County defense into a pair of fielding errors.
Sophomore Brody Redman provided the lone offensive spark for Richland County, breaking up the no-hit bid with a double while also drawing a walk. Redman and junior Carter Blank each managed to steal a base, but the visitors ultimately could not push a runner across the plate against Casey-Westfield’s lockdown pitching.
On the mound, Redman absorbed the hard-luck loss despite a solid outing. He allowed just two earned runs on seven hits while striking out two batters over 4.2 innings of work. Junior Cooper Hires provided excellent relief out of the bullpen for Richland County, pitching 1.1 hitless and scoreless innings while striking out one batter to keep the game within reach.
