Illinois Quick Hits: AFP says tax breaks would be more at Soldier Field

(The Center Square) – Americans for Prosperity Illinois says megaprojects legislation that cleared the Illinois House could give a proposed development near Soldier Field more than double the tax breaks the Chicago Bears might receive for a proposed stadium in Arlington Heights.

According to a news release from AFP, the property tax break for the proposed $20 billion ONE Central development could be $800 million, while tax breaks for the Arlington Heights project could reach $330 million, all of which could be shifted onto taxpayers in surrounding communities.

BASEBALL CARDS, GOLD UP FOR AUCTION

Collectible cards of Baseball Hall of Famers Ryne Sandberg, Nolan Ryan and Ken Griffey Jr., a 1917 U.S. Standing Liberty quarter, a gold ingot and 14-karat gold earrings with stones are among the items available at the Illinois Treasurer’s latest online Cash auction of unclaimed property.

A total of 150 lots can be viewed on the HiBid website for the auction that runs through May 3.

AUTISM SEAT COVERS PROVIDED IN SOUTHERN ILLINOIS

A southern Illinois-based nonprofit dedicated to supporting neurodiverse people has teamed up with local law enforcement to provide free autism seat belt covers.

The Metropolis Planet reports that Inklusion Community Inc. has collaborated with the Metropolis and Paducah Police Departments to share the seat belt covers, which aim to alert emergency responders that an individual may have autism.
