Westville Baseball Rallies for Dramatic 5-3 Extra-Inning Walk-Off Over Casey-Westfield

The Westville varsity baseball team engineered a thrilling late-game comeback to defeat visiting Casey-Westfield 5-3 in extra innings during a Saturday morning non-conference matchup. Down to their final outs, the home team overcame a three-run deficit and five defensive errors to secure the walk-off victory in the eighth inning.

Casey-Westfield controlled the early portions of the contest, methodically building a 3-0 advantage. The Warriors opened the scoring with a single run in the top of the first inning, added another in the third, and pushed a third run across in the top of the fifth. The visitors tallied seven hits on the day and capitalized on Westville’s early defensive struggles.

Heading into the bottom of the sixth inning, Westville’s offense finally broke through. The home team plated their first run to cut the deficit to 3-1, shifting the momentum in their favor.

In the bottom of the seventh, with their backs against the wall, Westville’s lineup delivered. The team pushed two crucial runs across the plate to tie the game at 3-3 and force extra innings, stunning the Warriors.

The comeback was completed in the bottom of the eighth. After holding Casey-Westfield scoreless in the top half of the frame, Westville delivered the final blow, scoring two runs to seal the 5-3 victory and send the home crowd into a frenzy. The late offensive surge bumped Westville’s hit total to eight for the game.

With the dramatic win, Westville improved its overall season record to 16-11. Despite the heartbreaking loss, Casey-Westfield holds a strong 15-9 record on the year.
