Late-Inning Rally Propels Casey-Westfield Past Paris in Conference Clash
The Paris Tigers varsity baseball team dropped a hard-fought 6-4 conference matchup against Casey-Westfield on Monday. Despite a commanding offensive showing from M. Hutchings and a solid start on the mound by Brody Quinn, a seventh-inning rally by the visitors erased a late Paris lead to seal the home defeat.
Paris broke a scoreless tie in the bottom of the third inning, pushing two runs across the plate to take early control of the game. Casey-Westfield responded by chipping away with single runs in the fourth and fifth innings, but the Tigers answered immediately. In the bottom of the fifth, Paris plated two additional runs to restore a 4-2 advantage, positioning themselves for a vital conference win.
However, the lead slipped away in the top of the seventh. Casey-Westfield’s bats came alive in their final turn at the plate, capitalizing on critical opportunities and defensive miscues to erupt for four runs. Paris was unable to counter in the bottom half of the frame, bringing the game to its 6-4 conclusion.
At the plate, M. Hutchings anchored the Paris offense with a standout performance. The slugger went 2-for-3 on the day, blasting a home run and a double while driving in two runs and scoring twice. Sean Dunn also delivered in the clutch for the Tigers, ripping a double and matching Hutchings with two RBIs. Carter Crippes contributed a double of his own, while Madox Hutchings and Carter Eastham each added a hit to the team’s total of six.
On the mound, Quinn put in a workmanlike 6.1 innings for the Tigers. The starter allowed five runs on four hits but was tagged for just two earned runs, striking out two batters and keeping his team in contention for the bulk of the afternoon. Relievers Gabe Roush and Gavin Reed stepped in during the turbulent seventh inning, with Reed striking out the only batter he faced.
