Newton Shuts Out Casey-Westfield in Conference Clash
CASEY, IL – A stellar pitching performance by C. Barthelme led Newton to a 3-0 victory over Casey-Westfield in Monday’s conference baseball matchup.
Barthelme was nearly untouchable on the mound, tossing a complete-game shutout. He scattered five hits and issued just two walks while striking out six Casey-Westfield batters, effectively silencing the Warriors’ offense throughout the seven-inning contest.
The game remained a tense, scoreless deadlock through the first five innings, as both pitching staffs traded zeroes. Newton finally broke the stalemate in the top of the sixth inning, manufacturing three runs to seize the lead. Gavin Meinhart delivered the biggest blow of the day, a clutch homer that plated multiple runs and provided all the offense the Eagles would need.
Despite recording five hits and playing a clean game defensively, Casey-Westfield was unable to convert its baserunners into runs against Barthelme’s composed approach. The Warriors’ defense was solid, committing zero errors, but the late-game offensive burst from the Eagles proved to be the difference in a tightly contested conference battle.
