Norma Ann (Moore) Shoot, 86

Spread the love

Norma Ann (Moore) Shoot, 86, of Casey, Illinois, passed away on September 12, 2025, at 2:45 p.m. in her home.

Born on October 2, 1938, in Kansas, Illinois, Norma was the oldest child and only daughter of Truman and Margaret (Allen) Moore. She spent her early years in Villa Grove and Kansas, Illinois, where she graduated from Kansas High School in 1956. She and John were married on August 17, 1958, in the Kansas Presbyterian Church.

Norma earned a degree in nursing from Union Hospital School of Nursing in Terre Haute, Indiana, and became a registered nurse in 1959. She began her nursing career at Charleston Hospital and later Sarah Bush Lincoln Hospital from the time it opened in 1977 until her retirement in 2001, spending the majority of her time in the obstetrics department where she played a part in bringing many lives into the world. In addition to her hospital work, she served as one of the staff RNs for the American Legion’s Boys State for over twenty years and volunteered her nursing skills for the American Red Cross at blood drives throughout the years. At the time of her retirement, she was recognized for 42 years as a dedicated nurse, but those who knew her know that she continued nursing family and friends long after retirement.

Norma’s greatest gift was her role as a sister, wife, mother and grandmother. She will always be remembered for her thoughtful gift-giving, love for attending her grandchildren’s activities, creative and loving homemade birthday cards, and the caring way she shared in their interests. Her fun and adventurous spirit allowed her to keep up with her grandchildren—riding roller coasters, catching turtles on camping trips, and always eager to play games. Her family-favorite banana pudding salad and her purse that contained everything anyone would ever need will always bring smiles to those who knew her.

She is survived by her husband of 67 years, John Shoot; son Kent (Amy) Shoot of Chandler, Arizona; grandchildren Devon (Hayley) Shoot of Dallas, Georgia, and their twins Brooklynn and Blakely, and Jarod (Brynne) Shoot of Phoenix, Arizona, and their children Archer and Presley; son Todd (Jill) Shoot of Quincy, Illinois; grandchildren Kelsey (Jared) Shover of Denton, Texas, and their children Ayla, Landry and Nolan, Alec (Nicole) Shoot of Denver, Colorado, Aaron (Mackenzie) Shoot of Pensacola, Florida, and their children Aria and Wilder, and Kiley Shoot of Auburn, Alabama; three brothers Allen Moore of Edwardsville, Illinois, Ed (Bobbi) Moore of Lake Villa, Illinois, and Brad (Shari) Moore of Monticello, Indiana; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Truman and Margaret (Allen) Moore, and sister-in-law Susan (Lacy) Moore.

A memorial service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, October 3, 2025, at Markwell Funeral Home with Rev. Tom Marsh officiating. Inurnment will follow in Vernon Addition Cemetery columbarium in Casey, Illinois. Visitation will be held from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. on Friday morning prior to the service at Markwell Funeral Home, 200 N. Central Ave., Casey, Illinois.

Memorial contributions may be made to Sarah Bush Lincoln Hospice through the SBL Health Foundation at https://wl.donorperfect.net/weblink/weblink.aspx?name=E358496&id=2 or by mail to SBL Hospice, 700 W. Lincoln Ave., Suite 100, Charleston, Illinois 61920.
