Edgar remembered at funeral service

Gov. J.B. Pritzker says former Gov. Jim Edgar had a unique ability to bring people together despite their differences.

Pritzker spoke Saturday at Edgar’s funeral service in Springfield.

Edgar died Sept. 14 at the age of 79 following complications related to treatment for pancreatic cancer.

Iranian charged for re-entry of removed alien

U.S. Border Patrol Commander Op At Large Gregory Bovino says Operation Midway Blitz has led to the arrest of an Iranian national who was convicted of aggravated kidnapping and criminal sexual abuse.

Bovino wrote in an X post the unnamed individual is facing a new felony charge for re-entry of a removed alien.

Over the weekend, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement sent notifications to Illinois, California and New York that ICE would engage with the Department of Justice and other federal agencies to end the three states’ obstruction of the apprehension and removal of criminal illegal aliens.

Dolton man sentenced for gun fight

A Dolton man has been sentenced to 20 years and eight months in prison for his role in an exchange of gunfire in Calumet City.

Anthony Hayes, 27, pleaded guilty to unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition earlier this year.

Prosecutors said Hayes and Jamari Williams fired multiple rounds at Reginald Daniels outside an auto repair shop in 2021. Williams, 26, and Daniels, 33, both of Chicago, were sentenced earlier this year for their roles in the shootout.
