Students across the Casey-Westfield school district are kicking off the fall with new learning initiatives and eagerly anticipated events.
At Monroe Elementary School, Principal Kacie Rhoads reported the rollout of a new student incentive program for October called “Boo Bucks.” The effort is designed to “freshen up” the school’s existing BRAVE behavior program. Students can earn “Boo Bucks” weekly for good behavior, passing grades, and completed assignments, which they can spend at a Halloween Concession Stand on Oct. 31.
At the Jr/Sr High School, Principal Jim Sullivan announced that preparations are in full swing for homecoming. This year’s theme is “Luau,” with the Coronation and Dance scheduled for Friday, Sept. 26. A week of themed dress-up days and activities will follow, culminating in the homecoming parade and football game on Oct. 3.
Academically, Sullivan highlighted several engaging classroom projects. High school students in Applied Language Arts are participating in a nine-week unit exploring the “American Dream,” which blends historical research with personal development and goal-setting. Meanwhile, junior high students are starting poetry units, and seventh-grade social studies students are creating tribute projects to everyday heroes.
