Junior High

After severe weather postponed their Saturday matchup, the Casey-Westfield Junior High Braves took the field on Sunday afternoon to complete the JFL’s weekend sweep of Paris.

The Braves had a fast start, but needed a solid third quarter to put the Tigers away in CW’s final home game of the season on Sunday afternoon’s rescheduled game as they took a 34-6 win at the final buzzer.

CW took the opening kickoff, and Eli Shoaff brought it out to the 49-yard line to start their first drive.

Ian Richardson then picked up five yards on two tries, then Corben Davidson hit Bentley Cribelar on a 14-yard completion to move the chains. Lane Shore and Richardson combined in the ground game to move the chains, then the Corben Davidson-Cribelar connection struck again for a 17-yard gain and a first down to the Paris one-yard line.

On the next play, Corben Davidson followed his line the necessary distance to cross the goal line for the first points of the game.

On the conversion, Corben Davidson handed the ball to Shore for the two-point conversion and an 8-0 Braves advantage.

Paris picked up back-to-back first downs on their first series, but an interception by Richardson was returned 44 yards to give the Braves all the Tiger 36-yard line. However, they were unable to capitalize as they turned the ball over on downs just a few plays later.

The Tigers took over and moved the chains twice before Gunner Sharp covered up a loose ball for the Purple and Gold for the fumble recovery.

Again, the CW offense struggled and turned the ball over on downs as the first half was quickly coming to a close.

Paris gained a little momentum, and it was enough to carry them to the end zone for the touchdown, but the conversion failed, leaving the Braves on top 8-6 at the intermission.

When the second half got underway, the CW defense gave a little, but stood strong when needed, led by a sack by Ocie Ellen, which pushed the Tigers into a 3-and-long. A fumble between the Paris center and quarterback was quickly recovered, but brought up fourth down and a punt.

Shore got a 28-yard punt return to set up the Braves’ defense in Paris territory, and Richardson busted through the Tiger defenders for a 47-yard scoring run. The conversion attempt failed, but CW expanded its lead to 14-6.

The Tigers fumbled to end their next offensive series, with Cribelar covering it up for the Braves. He was rewarded for that effort four plays later, as Corben Davidson hit him in the end zone for the CW score. Eli Shoaff pulled in the two-point conversion pass from Corben Davidson for a 22-6 advantage.

A strong defensive series featured tackles by William Boswell, Richardson, and Isaiah Wilson, followed by a second sack by Ocie Ellen to force a Paris punt.

Shore rattled off a 20-yard run, then Richardson crossed the goal line from 26 yards out for the score and a 28-6 lead.

Paris took the ensuing kickoff and moved the ball methodically into the Red Zone. The Tiger quarterback dropped back to pass and turned the ball loose in the direction of Peyton Edwards, who picked off the pass, then rumbled downfield, only to see a yellow flag negate his efforts.

Shore got a four-yard gain on the ground, then Richardson was again given the nod, and he slithered through the secondary for an 83-yard score.

Now holding a 34-6 lead, the Braves continued to keep Paris at bay as the clock ticked down to the final horn to end the game.

The Braves will travel to Marshall on Saturday evening for their final regular-season game. The squad is in the hunt to advance to the Championship game against the South division winners on October 5th in Marshall.
