Casey Township Library Board of Trustees Meeting | September 4, 2025

The Casey Township Library Board took a major step toward a future expansion on Thursday, September 4, 2025, by voting to hire the architectural firm Cordogan Clark to draft plans and cost estimates for an addition. This information will form the basis of a fundraising campaign that will seek support from local citizens and alumni. For more details on the expansion strategy, see our full story.

The board also formally announced its selection of Remlinger to replace the library’s failed air conditioner, a decision made via a “texting” vote to expedite the repair. More information on the conclusion of the bidding process is available in a separate article.

Library Plans Entry in Homecoming Parade
The Casey Township Library will participate in the community’s Homecoming Parade on October 4, 2025. Librarian Gretchen Murphy announced the library will promote its Imagination Library program along the parade route, which has a “Hawaii” theme. The large cutout of Dolly Parton will be featured, and the board plans to use golf carts, suggesting a request will be made to Olive Tree for the donation of a large cart for the day.

Librarian Attends Poverty Simulation
Librarian Gretchen Murphy reported to the board that she attended a Poverty Simulation Meeting at Harland Hall in Marshall. The event featured “Real Life Games” acted out by attendees to simulate the challenges of poverty. Murphy noted that a similar program, titled “Welcome to the Real World,” is held at the local high school.

Historical Society Parade Note
A note in the public record mentioned that the Historical Society is organizing the July 4, 2026, parade to commemorate the “2050 Anniversary of USA.”

Consent Agenda Approved
The board unanimously approved its consent agenda, which included the minutes from the August 7, 2025 meeting, the latest financial and activity reports, and the payment of bills. The motion was made by Shelley Crouch and seconded by Sharon Durham.

Next Meeting Scheduled
The next meeting of the Casey Township Library Board of Trustees will be held at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 2, 2025, at the library.
