The Casey-Westfield Community Unit School District C-4 board on Monday, October 20, 2025, heard extensive reports from school principals detailing a successful start to the academic year, marked by numerous student accomplishments in academics, athletics, and the arts.

Jr./Sr. High School Principal Jim Sullivan shared a lengthy list of achievements. Academically, the Varsity Eco Team, consisting of captain Zoe Miller, Charity Large, River Shaffer, and Chloe Taylor, secured first place in this year’s Eco Meet. In athletics, the high school golf team completed one of its most successful seasons in school history with a 14-7 record, including a second-place finish at the conference tournament and advancing from regionals for the second consecutive year. Senior Carson Hall and sophomore Ryan Hosfield advanced individually to the state tournament in Bloomington, the first state golf participants from the school since 2012.

Other student-athletes receiving recognition included Daisy Mumford, who qualified for the state tennis tournament, and cross-country runner Kayla Clark, who earned her fourth LIC All-Conference honor with an eighth-place finish in Terre Haute.

The arts programs also celebrated significant success. Eight students—Cali Alexander, Will Cochonour, Matthew Dreher, Grady Fain, Charity Large, Ella Staley, Finley Tipsword, and Isaiah Wilson—auditioned for and were accepted into the All-District Band and Choir.

Monroe Elementary Principal Kacie Rhoads reported on a vibrant and engaged student body, highlighting a particularly special moment for student Kady Towles, who received a new golf cart through the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Rhoads noted her students enthusiastically participated in homecoming week festivities, which were coordinated with the high school to include younger students through morning greeters and pep rallies. She also detailed numerous classroom activities, including a sixth-grade field trip to Springfield to study Abraham Lincoln and state government and a fifth-grade research project on animals in preparation for a trip to the St. Louis Zoo.

Both principals mentioned successful homecoming weeks and outlined upcoming events. The high school is planning a Halloween dress-up day, and Monroe Elementary has scheduled its Spooktacular Family Reading Night for October 28 and a Halloween costume parade on October 31.
