Casey Comprehensive Plan Key Points:

  • The final draft of the updated comprehensive plan will be ready by the end of the week.

  • A public hearing for final comments is scheduled for the council meeting in two weeks.

  • The council is expected to vote on adopting the new plan on December 1, 2025.

  • An updated plan is critical for securing future state and federal grant funding.

CASEY, Il. – After months of work and public input, the update to the City of Casey’s comprehensive plan is on the verge of completion.

“We just had our second open house for the comprehensive plan update tonight,” Economic Development Director Tom Daughhetee announced at the November 3 city council meeting. “The updated plan should be finalized by the end of this week.”

With the draft nearly finished, the final step for public input has been scheduled. A public hearing will be held just before the next regular council meeting in two weeks to allow residents to provide any final comments.

Following the hearing, the plan will be prepared for official adoption by the city council, which is slated for a vote on December 1.

Mayor Mike Nichols emphasized the importance of completing the process. “Which will allow us to have a brand new updated comprehensive plan for grant applications that are getting ready to come up,” he stated. A current, comprehensive plan is often a prerequisite for municipalities seeking state and federal funding for infrastructure and development projects.
