History made: Defense holds Arcola scoreless in three quarters

CASEY — The Lady Warriors wrapped up a three-game homestand by welcoming the Arcola Lady Riders to Bob Durham Court—a rematch of last season’s regional championship. This time around, the result was vastly different as the Purple and Gold achieved a rare defensive feat: holding their opponent scoreless for three of the four quarters in a 41-3 victory.
The shutout performance is believed to be a first in school history.
Arcola managed their lone basket of the night in the opening quarter. Meanwhile, the Lady Warriors offense erupted for 14 points in the first frame. CW added 11 points in the second quarter to take a commanding 25-3 lead at the half.
After the intermission, the Lady Warriors added eight points in each of the final two quarters. The defensive pressure remained relentless, preventing Arcola from buying a basket for the remainder of the contest.
Lucy Moore and Chloe Taylor both turned in double-digit scoring efforts with 14 and 12 points, respectively. Taylor grabbed seven boards and Moore added four in the win.
Julia Eckerty knocked down nine points while handing out seven assists and recording two takeaways. Kayla Clark scored three points with three rebounds and an assist. Nina Overbeck added two points and three boards, and Gylly Gilbert had one point, five rebounds, and a pair of steals.
Gracie Taylor pulled down six rebounds to go with four steals and an assist, while Madison Gray had four boards and Madison Hanley added one.
