Defense delivers thrilling 30-28 win over Oakwood

OAKWOOD — In game two of the opening day of the Oakwood Tournament, the Lady Warriors faced the host Lady Comets in a gritty, see-saw battle. Relying on a stifling fourth-quarter defense, the Purple and Gold emerged with a thrilling 30-28 victory.

Points were hard to come by in the opening quarter, with CW holding a slim 6-5 advantage. The Lady Comets hit their stride in the second stanza, erupting for 14 points while holding CW to just six, taking a 19-12 lead into halftime.

The break seemed to energize the Lady Warriors. They posted 12 points in the third quarter while ratcheting up the defensive intensity to hold Oakwood to six points, narrowing the deficit to a single point, 25-24, heading into the fourth.

The final eight minutes evolved into a defensive standoff, with only nine total points scored. The Lady Warriors doubled up Oakwood’s effort 6-3 in the final frame to secure the comeback win.

Three Lady Warriors—Lucy Moore, Chloe Taylor, and Kayla Clark—finished with six points each. Moore and Taylor both pulled down eight boards and recorded two steals, with Taylor adding two blocks. Clark finished with two rebounds, two steals, and one assist.

Gylly Gilbert contributed five points, four rebounds, two steals, and an assist. Julia Eckerty added four points, five assists, four steals, and two rebounds, while Gracie Taylor chipped in three points, four rebounds, and two assists.
