Casey Residents See 5 Inches of Snow; More Accumulation Forecast for Tuesday

Following a weekend storm that covered Casey in more than 5 inches of snow, updated forecasts indicate that winter conditions will persist this week with another round of accumulation expected Tuesday.

According to a weather precipitation report generated Sunday, Nov. 30, the city received a combined total of 5.3 inches of snow over the weekend. The majority of this precipitation fell on Saturday, Nov. 29, which recorded a daily total of 5.2 inches. The heaviest snowfall occurred Saturday evening at 6 p.m., when 2.1 inches accumulated in a single hour.

While the snow tapered off Sunday, a new forecast generated Nov. 30 warns of another approaching system.

Tuesday, Dec. 2, is forecast to be partly sunny with a high near 27 degrees during the day. However, snow is expected to return Tuesday night with a 100 percent chance of precipitation. The forecast predicts new snow accumulation of 1 to 3 inches.

Residents should also prepare for significantly colder temperatures as the week progresses. While Wednesday may see a high near 35 degrees, a cold front is expected to move through by Thursday, Dec. 4, limiting the daytime high to near 20 degrees.

By Friday night, Dec. 5, the low temperature is forecast to drop to around 5 degrees.

The forecast also indicates a chance of light snow on Monday afternoon and again on Friday. Looking ahead to the following weekend, there is a slight chance of freezing rain Saturday night into Sunday, Dec. 7.
