Moore Notches Double-Double, But Warriors’ Rally Stalls in Loss to OHPHS

CASEY, Ill. — The Casey-Westfield Warriors showcased a spirited second-half defensive effort and received a double-double performance from senior Lucy Moore, but a difficult shooting night ultimately proved too much to overcome in a 37-29 loss to the Oblong/Hutsonville/Palestine (OHPHS) co-op.

Moore was the anchor for the Warriors on both ends of the floor. The senior forward tallied a team-high 10 points and pulled down 10 rebounds, battling in the paint against a tall OHPHS front line. Despite her efforts, the Warriors struggled to find the bottom of the net as a team, shooting just 21 percent from the field.

The game opened as a grind-it-out affair. Casey-Westfield stayed within striking distance early, trailing just 11-9 after the first quarter. However, the offense went cold in the second period, managing only four points as OHPHS extended their lead to 19-13 at halftime.

Emerging from the locker room with renewed energy, the Warriors mounted a comeback in the third quarter. Sparked by defensive pressure that forced the co-op into tough situations, Casey-Westfield outscored the visitors 12-9 in the frame. Junior Gracie Taylor, who finished with nine points, and freshman Chloe Taylor helped ignite the run, narrowing the deficit and putting the game within reach heading into the fourth.

Chloe Taylor provided a spark of versatility for the Warriors, finishing with five points, seven rebounds, three steals, and two assists.

However, the momentum stalled in the final eight minutes. The Warriors’ offense couldn’t sustain the third-quarter rhythm, managing just four points in the fourth quarter. OHPHS capitalized on the cold spell, hitting crucial free throws down the stretch to seal the win.

Defensively, Casey-Westfield was active, recording eight steals and limiting OHPHS to 37 points. Senior Julia Eckerty, despite a tough shooting night, contributed heavily on the defensive end with four rebounds and two assists, while Madison Gray added three assists and three steals.

For OHPHS, Genna Kidwell led all scorers with 14 points, doing most of her damage at the free-throw line (9-of-10), while Ella Jenkins added 10 points and seven rebounds.

The loss highlights the Warriors’ defensive potential, but the team will look to improve its offensive efficiency moving forward.
