CASEY — The first Mega Night of the basketball season kicked off Friday at Bob Durham Court, but the opener proved difficult for the hosts as the Casey-Westfield Lady Warriors fell to a high-octane Fairfield squad, 60-26.

Fairfield utilized a fast and furious style of play, often subbing five players at a time to maintain intense pressure throughout the contest. That strategy stifled the Purple and Gold offense, holding Casey-Westfield to just 26 total points.

Lucy Moore opened the game strong for the Lady Warriors, converting an offensive board for the first bucket of the night. However, that 2-0 advantage proved to be the only lead CW would hold.

Fairfield responded immediately, rattling off the next four points. Madison Gray split a pair of free throws to pull the Lady Warriors within one at 4-3, but the Lady Mules surged again with seven straight points. Julia Eckerty stopped the run with an offensive put-back and then found Chloe Taylor open for a jumper, cutting the deficit to 11-7.

After Fairfield added a bucket and a free throw, Eckerty sank two shots from the stripe to narrow the gap to 14-9. The Lady Mules scored the final points of the quarter to take a 17-9 lead.

The wheels fell off for the Lady Warrior offense in the second frame. Casey-Westfield managed just two points over the eight-minute span, while Fairfield poured in 15 points to take a commanding 32-11 advantage into halftime.

Eckerty tried to spark a rally in the third, hitting a free throw and finding Kayla Clark for a basket to make it 32-14. However, Fairfield’s depth took over. After trading baskets, the Lady Mules rattled off five unanswered points to build a 42-15 lead. They closed the quarter on an 11-6 run, holding a decisive 53-21 advantage heading into the final stanza.

With a continuous clock in effect during the fourth quarter, scoring slowed significantly. The teams combined for just 12 points in the final frame, sealing the 60-26 victory for Fairfield.

Lucy Moore led the offensive effort for the Purple and Gold with 13 points. Julia Eckerty contributed five points, while Madison Gray and Chloe Taylor added three each. Kaya Clark rounded out the scoring with two points.

On the boards, Gray paced CW with six rebounds. Eckerty pulled down five, Gylly Gilbert grabbed four, and Taylor added three. Moore and Kennady Fuller finished with two rebounds each, while Clark and Nina Overbeck added one apiece.

Eckerty also handed out three assists and recorded one steal. Taylor and Moore each tallied a pair of takeaways, with Gilbert adding one steal. Moore was also credited with one block.
