City Council of Casey Meeting | February 17, 2026

The Casey City Council met on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, to approve property acquisitions, infrastructure easements, and community agreements. The meeting was highlighted by the authorization to purchase the former Charles Industries building and emotional discussions regarding memorials for local icon Jim Bolin. The Council also received updates on the city’s upcoming 250th-anniversary celebrations and police training compliance before adjourning.

Saddle Club Lease Amendment:
Following an executive session, the Council approved Ordinance #607, which amends the lease agreement with the Casey Saddle Club. Mayor Mike Nichols clarified that the amendment specifically addresses insurance requirements requested by the club.

250th Celebration and Fireworks:
Economic Development Director Tom Daughhetee and the Council discussed upcoming events. The deadline for the “250K Celebrates America” essay contest has been extended to March 2. Additionally, the Council confirmed that while fireworks will be held on Sunday, July 5 this year, the provider has promised that in all future years, the show will take place on July 4, regardless of the day of the week.

Police Department Update:
Chief Adam Henderson reported that the department is fully up-to-date with training board requirements and has received reimbursement from the state for recent academy training. Henderson also noted that the list of property ordinance violations is shrinking as the department works with the land bank to rehabilitate or clear properties.

Grocery Store Search:
Mayor Nichols and Economic Development Director Daughhetee reported that efforts to attract a new grocery store to Casey are ongoing. “We’re never giving up on the grocery store idea,” Nichols said, noting that while recent leads hit dead ends, the search continues.

Street Light Repair:
During alderman reports, Tanner Brown requested repairs for a street light located in the alley between Main Street and Alabama Avenue, in the 900 block East. Public Works Director Ryan Staley acknowledged the request.

Public Utility Committee Meeting:
Alderman Steve Jenkins announced a Public Utility Street Committee meeting is scheduled for Monday, February 23, at 4:45 p.m. The agenda will include street renaming discussions.
