Illinois Quick Hits: Chicago advances in bid for 2028 DNC
(The Center Square) – Chicago is one of five cities in the running to hold the 2028 Democratic National Convention.
The Democratic National Committee announced on Monday that Chicago, Atlanta, Boston, Denver and Philadelphia advanced in the application process for the convention scheduled from Aug. 7 to Aug. 10, 2028.
Chicago has held the DNC six times, most recently in 2024.
BILL TO BAN FEDERAL SCHOOL CHOICE FOLLOWS UNION DONATIONS
On the same day state Sen. Graciela Guzmán, D-Chicago, filed legislation that would ban Illinois from participating in any federal education savings account program, the Chicago Teachers Union’s political action committee gave a six-figure donation to Guzmán’s campaign.
According to Illinois Sunshine, the CTU contribution of $147,520.30 on Feb. 6 followed a CTU Local 1 donation of $272,154.38 to Guzmán’s campaign four days earlier.
ILLINOIS VETERANS AFFAIRS DIRECTOR TO HEAD NATIONAL GROUP
Illinois Department of Veterans Affairs Director Terry Prince has been elected president of the National Association of State Directors of Veterans Affairs.
Director Prince is the first NASDVA president from Illinois since 1947, when Homer Bradney served as the organization’s first president.
