Casey-Westfield School Board Meeting | March 16, 2026

Article Summary: The Casey-Westfield School Board approved the $4,995 purchase of a floor burnisher for the Junior/Senior High School to replace an 11-year-old machine that is currently failing.

Floor Scrubber Purchase Key Points:

  • The Board approved a $4,995 contract with Pike Cleaning Systems for a Tennant 20-inch floor burnisher.

  • The new machine is a floor demo model with only 5 hours of use, heavily discounted from its normal $14,000 price tag.

  • The current machine is 11 years old, has a failing charging system, and only holds a 20- to 30-minute charge.

The Casey-Westfield School Board on Monday, March 16, 2026, unanimously approved the purchase of a replacement floor burnisher for the Junior/Senior High School, securing a heavily discounted demo model to replace failing equipment.

Superintendent Mike Shackelford reported to the Board that the floor scrubber currently used by custodians at the Junior/Senior High School is 11 years old and is expected to have 300 hours of use by the end of the school year.

According to Shackelford, the charging system on the current machine is beginning to show signs of failure, limiting custodians to only 20 to 30 minutes of use at a time before it requires recharging.

To address the issue, the district located a top-of-the-line Tennant 20-inch floor burnisher through Pike Cleaning Systems. Because the recommended machine is a floor demo model with only 5 hours of use logged, the district was able to secure it for a total cost of $4,995. Shackelford noted that the machine normally retails for over $14,000.

Board member Mike Fouty made the motion to approve the purchase, which was seconded by Becky Clement. The purchase passed in a unanimous roll call vote among the six present members.
