Gilbert’s Shutout and Seven-Run Fourth Inning Propel Casey-Westfield Past Centennial, 10-0

Sophomore G. Gilbert delivered a stellar two-way performance on Friday afternoon, leading the Casey-Westfield varsity softball team to a resounding 10-0 non-conference victory over visiting Centennial in a five-inning, run-rule shortened contest.

Gilbert was dominant in the circle, tossing a complete-game shutout to earn the victory. Over her five innings of work, she racked up eight strikeouts and effectively neutralized the Centennial lineup. She scattered just two hits—singles by Centennial’s Zoe Goodreau and Naomi Siwila—and navigated around three walks without surrendering a single run. The Casey-Westfield defense provided rock-solid support behind her, completing the game without committing an error, highlighted by junior Ella Whitacre’s 11 putouts.

While Gilbert held the visitors in check, the Casey-Westfield offense methodically built a lead before erupting late. After scratching across single runs in the second and third frames to take a 2-0 advantage, the home team blew the game wide open with a massive seven-run fourth inning. Centennial’s defense struggled under the pressure, committing three costly errors that extended innings and allowed seven unearned runs to cross the plate over the course of the afternoon.

Senior Ava Goble paced the Casey-Westfield lineup at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-3 with a pair of RBIs. Gilbert helped her own cause with a triple, a run scored, and two RBIs. Junior H. Schackmann (#11) also showcased her power, blasting a triple and scoring twice after drawing a walk.

Senior Lucy Moore, sophomore Arhianna Bonds, and senior Addison Seaton each chipped in with a hit and an RBI to keep the line moving. The hosts consistently applied pressure on the basepaths as well, tallying five stolen bases evenly distributed among five different players.

For Centennial, Goodreau shouldered the bulk of the pitching duties, striking out an impressive eight batters over four innings of work. However, the lack of defensive support and a quiet offense proved too much to overcome. Casey-Westfield finalized the victory by pushing across their tenth run in the bottom of the fifth to invoke the run rule.
