Illinois Quick Hits: Cyber attack shuts down Evanston High School

(The Center Square) – Evanston Township High School officials say they are cooperating with the FBI after a ransomware attack on Sunday disrupted district systems, internet and computer infrastructure.

Summer school, sports camps, and on-campus activities were canceled for Monday and Tuesday.

LOGAN CORRECTIONAL CENTER TO BE RELOCATED

The Illinois Department of Corrections has announced plans to relocate Logan Correctional Center to Stateville in Will County, where IDOC is planning to build two new facilities.

On Friday, state officials said they are seeking a progressive design build entity for the new Stateville project, which in 2024 had an estimated cost as high as $900 million.

ONE DEAD, TWO INJURED IN CARPENTERSVILLE SHOOTING

Police say a suspect is dead and two victims are injured after a shooting occurred at a Carpentersville restaurant.

According to a statement from Illinois State Police, the suspect was actively shooting at a person when Carpentersville officers arrived at the scene early Saturday. The officers discharged their weapons and struck the suspect, who was pronounced dead. Two victims shot by the suspect were hospitalized, one in critical condition and one in fair condition.

Police said the incident stemmed from a domestic violence situation.

SWANSEA WOMAN CHARGED WITH MURDER IN EAST ST. LOUIS

A Swansea woman is charged with first-degree murder in connection with a fatal shooting in East St. Louis.

Illinois State Police arrested Brion Bess, 23, on Friday, two days after Ni’kajha Johnson of St. Louis, Missouri was found shot inside her vehicle at 25th Street and Ridge Avenue.

Johnson was pronounced dead at an area hospital.
