Illinois Quick Hits: Bond, TIF money helps fund Chicago neighborhood grants
(The Center Square) – Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson has announced $42.5 million in grant support for 56 neighborhood development projects.
A sports hall of fame in Dunning, a Black Fire Brigade first responder training academy in New City, and Little Village and Chicago Urban League community centers are among the recipients.
Funding is provided by a housing and economic development bond, tax increment financing and the Neighborhood Opportunity Fund.
CARBONDALE COUNCIL PASSES DATA CENTER MORATORIUM
The Carbondale city council has adopted a resolution putting a one-year moratorium on data center development.
The Southern Illinoisan reported that the resolution passed by a 4-1 vote during the council’s regular meeting on Tuesday.
ARRESTS, SUBSTANCE RECOVERIES REPORTED IN CENTRAL ILLINOIS
Illinois State Police say a multi-agency enforcement detail in central Illinois led to 41 arrests, 56 criminal charges, and the recovery of hundreds of grams of cannabis and controlled substances.
ISP says the efforts were focused on Peoria, Tazewell and Warren counties from June 15 to June 20.
ECONOMIC SURVEYS SUGGEST GROWTH, LOOSER CONDITIONS
The Chicago Fed Survey of Economic Conditions Activity Index increased to +18 in June from +11 in May, suggesting that economic growth was above trend.
The Chicago Fed’s National Financial Conditions Index decreased to –0.52 in the week ending June 19, suggesting looser financial conditions where credit is considered to be easier and cheaper for businesses and consumers.
The surveys of organizations located in the Seventh Federal Reserve District includes parts of Illinois, Iowa, Indiana, Michigan and Wisconsin.
MORE OBAMA MUSEUM TICKETS TO GO ON SALE IN JULY
The Obama Foundation has announced it will release more Obama Presidential Center Museum tickets next month following a summer sellout.
The new ticket release will include museum visits from September through January.
Obama Foundation founding members will receive exclusive presale access on July 1. Tickets will then be available to the general public July 8.
Outside of the museum, the majority of the Obama Center campus remains free and open to the public.
