Casey-Westfield CUSD C-4 Board of Education Meeting | June 22, 2026

Article Summary: The Casey-Westfield Board of Education on Monday, June 22, 2026, unanimously accepted a $187,661 property, casualty and liability insurance renewal for fiscal year 2026-2027, spreading coverage across four carriers and pools.

Insurance Renewal Key Points:

  • Total cost of the renewal package is $187,661 for fiscal year 2026-2027.
  • Coverage is split among Illinois Counties Risk Management Trust, the Workers’ Compensation Self-Insurance Trust, Beazley and Gerber Life.
  • The motion passed 7-0 on a roll-call vote.

CASEY — The Casey-Westfield Community Unit School District C-4 Board of Education on Monday, June 22, 2026, accepted a property, casualty and liability insurance proposal totaling $187,661 for the fiscal year that begins July 1, covering the district’s liability package, workers’ compensation exposure, cyber liability and student accident coverage.

Board member Becky Clement moved to accept the proposal, seconded by board member Shane Todd. The motion identified Illinois Counties Risk Management Trust, known as ICRMT, for the liability package; the Workers’ Compensation Self-Insurance Trust, or WCSIT, for workers’ compensation; Beazley for cyber liability; and Gerber Life for blanket student accident and catastrophic student accident coverage.

On the roll call, members voting yes were Jason Sharp, Lisa Huddlestun, Mike Fouty, Clement, Erin Fain, President Tracy Gelb and Todd. Gelb declared the motion carried.

A Layered Coverage Structure

The structure reflects a common approach among Illinois school districts, which frequently obtain general liability and property coverage through intergovernmental risk pools rather than the conventional commercial market. ICRMT and WCSIT are both pooled arrangements serving Illinois public entities. Cyber liability — a line of coverage that has grown in prominence for school districts holding large volumes of student data — is carried separately through Beazley. Gerber Life provides the district’s student accident coverage, including a catastrophic tier.

The minutes record the $187,661 figure as a single amount attached to the motion and do not break the cost down by carrier or coverage line. Neither the agenda nor the minutes state the prior year’s premium, so the year-over-year change cannot be determined from the source materials.

The insurance vote was one of several financial commitments the board made Monday. The consent agenda, approved earlier in the meeting on a 7-0 roll call, included renewal of the district’s firewall license with Quality Network Solutions for 2026-2027 at a cost of $10,115. Later in the meeting the board approved $42,973.36 in new elementary curriculum and adopted the fiscal year 2026 amended budget.

The insurance renewal appeared on the agenda as a standalone action item rather than as part of the consent agenda, a placement that gave board members a separate opportunity to discuss it. The minutes record no discussion before the vote.
