Article Summary: The Casey-Westfield Board of Education adopted the district’s amended fiscal year 2026 budget on Monday, June 22, 2026, following an 11-minute public hearing at which no member of the audience raised a question or concern.

Amended Budget Key Points:

  • President Tracy Gelb opened the public hearing at 7 p.m. and closed it at 7:11 p.m.
  • Superintendent Shackelford summarized the amended budget; no audience questions were recorded.
  • The board adopted the amended budget 7-0 later in the meeting.

CASEY — The Casey-Westfield Community Unit School District C-4 Board of Education on Monday, June 22, 2026, adopted an amended budget for the fiscal year ending June 30, following a public hearing that opened at the top of the meeting and drew no comment.

President Tracy Gelb opened the hearing at 7 p.m., immediately after roll call. Superintendent Shackelford provided a summary of the FY 2026 amended budget. The minutes record no questions or concerns from the audience, and Gelb closed the hearing at 7:11 p.m.

Illinois school districts amend adopted budgets when actual revenues and expenditures diverge materially from the estimates approved the prior September, and state law requires a public hearing and public notice before a board may adopt an amended budget. The hearing Monday satisfied that requirement.

When the item returned for action later in the agenda, board member Becky Clement moved to adopt the fiscal year 2026 amended budget, seconded by board member Shane Todd. The minutes note only that the board had heard the budget summary during the public hearing; no further discussion is recorded.

On the roll call, members voting yes were Jason Sharp, Lisa Huddlestun, Mike Fouty, Clement, Erin Fain, Gelb and Todd. Gelb declared the motion carried.

Neither the agenda nor the tentative minutes state the total dollar amount of the amended budget, the funds affected, or the size of the amendment relative to the original FY 2026 budget adopted in the fall. The summary Shackelford delivered during the hearing was not reduced to figures in the minutes.

The adoption came on a night of significant financial activity. The board approved a $187,661 insurance renewal for fiscal 2026-2027, a $42,973.36 curriculum purchase for Monroe Elementary, and a consent agenda that included a $10,115 firewall license renewal, bank depository designations across three institutions, and a resolution continuing the district’s annual Health Life Safety nickel levy for fire prevention, safety, energy conservation, disabled accessibility, school security and specified repairs.
