Casey-Westfield CUSD C-4 Board of Education Meeting | June 22, 2026

Article Summary: The Casey-Westfield Board of Education on Monday, June 22, 2026, accepted a donation of a new vision screener valued at approximately $8,500 from the Casey Lions Club, and will pass the district’s existing screener along to the Martinsville school district.

Lions Club Donation Key Points:

  • The Casey Lions Club is purchasing a new vision screener for the district, valued at approximately $8,500.
  • The district’s current screener is not old and remains in good working condition; it will be donated to Martinsville schools.
  • The board accepted the gift 7-0 under Board Policy 8:80, Gifts to the District.

CASEY — The Casey-Westfield Community Unit School District C-4 Board of Education on Monday, June 22, 2026, voted unanimously to accept a new vision screener from the Casey Lions Club, a piece of equipment Superintendent Shackelford valued at approximately $8,500.

Shackelford reported that the Casey Lions Club would like to purchase the new screener for the school district. He told the board that the district’s current screener is not very old and is still in good working condition, and recommended the board accept the donation while passing the existing unit along to the Martinsville school district rather than retiring it.

President Tracy Gelb moved to accept the donation of the new vision screener, valued at approximately $8,500, under the conditions of Board Policy 8:80, Gifts to the District. Board member Becky Clement seconded. On the roll call, members voting yes were Erin Fain, Gelb, Shane Todd, Jason Sharp, Lisa Huddlestun, Mike Fouty and Clement. Gelb declared the motion carried.

Vision screening has long been a signature service program of Lions Clubs International, whose local chapters commonly fund screening equipment for schools and community health programs. Illinois requires vision screening for students at specified grade levels, and districts typically perform the screenings in-house.

The disposition of the outgoing screener connects to a second item on Monday’s agenda. In adopting Resolution #2026-4 declaring specific district property as surplus, the board included the used vision screener on the list, with the minutes noting it is being replaced and will be donated. That resolution passed 7-0 on a motion by Todd seconded by Fouty.

The Martinsville school district, like Casey-Westfield, serves a portion of Clark County.
