The Casey-Westfield varsity baseball team protected its home turf at Jerald Barr Field on Monday afternoon, securing a solid 7-3 non-conference victory over the Oblong/Hutsonville/Palestine (OHP) co-op. By combining steady, inning-by-inning offensive production with an ability to capitalize on defensive mistakes, Casey-Westfield controlled the pace of the game to earn the win.

The hosts established the tempo early, scratching across a single run in the bottom of the first inning and adding another in the second to build a quick 2-0 advantage. Despite managing just six hits on the day, Casey-Westfield consistently put the ball in play and pressured the OHP defense.

Oblong/Hutsonville/Palestine showed its resilience in the top of the third inning. The visitors broke through with a two-run rally to knot the score at 2-2, briefly shifting the momentum. However, Casey-Westfield immediately answered the bell in the bottom half of the frame, responding with two runs of their own to reclaim a 4-2 lead.

In the fourth inning, Casey-Westfield effectively put the game out of reach. Taking advantage of defensive struggles by the visitors—OHP committed four errors during the contest—the home team mounted a decisive three-run rally. The surge extended their lead to a commanding 7-2.

OHP managed to plate one final run in the top of the fifth inning to trim the deficit to 7-3, but the Casey-Westfield pitching staff and defense locked down the remainder of the game. They held the visitors scoreless in the sixth inning to finalize the victory in a weather- or time-shortened contest.

With the win, Casey-Westfield improves to 4-2 overall for the 2026 campaign and remains a perfect 3-0 at home. Meanwhile, OHP will look to regroup and search for its first win of the season in its next outing.
